The palazzo del Podestà or Palagio now houses the permanent Gipsoteca Libero Andreotti exhibition (https://www.tomontecatini.com/i-luoghi-dellarte/musei/gipsoteca-libero-andreotti/). The former seat of the Podesta was built in the 12th century and underwent a number of changes between the 17th and 20th centuries.Born specifically to host public meetings and preserve public documents, it housed public offices and was the Podesta’s residence until 1424. It was then continuously transformed and expanded over the centuries for different uses (prison, Monte Pio bank, public school, barracks, arsenal, theatre, military hospital, carpentry). Restoration began in the ’70s by the Soprintendenza ai beni Ambientali ed Architettonici for the Provinces of Florence and Pistoia and was concluded by the City of Pescia, who reopened it to the community.
