The statues of Giuseppe Verdi
As a guest of the “Locanda Maggiore” hotel, Giuseppe Verdi used to spend his summers in the town.
It was at Montecatini Terme that Verdi found the ideal environment for his creative endeavours: in 1885, he wrote here most of the third act of his opera “Otello”, while in 1889, he began to compose his opera “Falstaff”.
On the Viale Verdi dedicated to him, opposite the Locanda Maggiore hotel, there is a bust of him made of terracotta by Antonio Carminati. At the entrance to the Verdi Theatre, a statue donated by Russian author Aidyn Zeynalov celebrates the artist symbol of Montecatini Terme.
