Water Sculpture

Scultura d'acqua

The Water Sculpture by Belgian artist Pol Bury is the most recent of the many fountains that pay homage to the city’s connection with its renowned thermal springs. It was installed in 2004 at the Thermal Park, near the former Torretta Spa. The fountain was already exhibited in the 1970s by the artist at the Guggenheim in New York, and was later donated by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia (Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia Foundation).

The modern forms of the sculpture recall Japanese artist Susumu Shingu’s Water Duet, installed in the vicinity of the Tettuccio Spa. The two works consist of metal cylinders whose movement, caused by hydraulic force, produces delicate musical effects. Here, too, the sound of water and evocative melody combine to form a harmonious tribute to the prodigious hot springs.
