Presentazione del libro “Pietro Leopoldo – Il Granduca delle riforme” di Eugenio Giani
Lunedì 7 luglio 2025 Montecatini Terme avrà l’onore di ospitare un evento culturale di grande prestigio: la presentazione del nuovo libro del Presidente della Regione Toscana, Eugenio Giani, intitolato “Pietro Leopoldo – Il Granduca delle riforme” (edizioni Giunti, 2025).
L’incontro si terrà alle ore 18.30 nella Sala del Consiglio del Palazzo Comunale (Viale Verdi 46, secondo piano).
L’autore, laureato in Giurisprudenza e attuale Governatore della Regione dal 2020, è noto anche come profondo conoscitore e appassionato studioso della storia toscana. In questo volume, Giani racconta la figura di Pietro Leopoldo di Asburgo-Lorena, Granduca illuminato che guidò la Toscana verso un periodo di grande modernizzazione e progresso. Con uno stile scorrevole e coinvolgente, il libro ripercorre la vita del sovrano, dalle origini alla corte di Vienna fino al ritorno come Imperatore d’Austria, evidenziando le importanti riforme introdotte nel Granducato, come l’abolizione della tortura e della pena di morte attraverso il celebre Codice Leopoldino del 1786.
L’incontro sarà anche l’occasione per celebrare il profondo legame tra Pietro Leopoldo e Montecatini Terme. È infatti grazie a lui se nacque la città termale moderna, frutto di un grandioso progetto di bonifica e di sviluppo urbano che trasformò la pianura ai piedi dell’antico castello in uno dei centri termali più rinomati d’Europa. Il Comune di Montecatini Terme, grazie a un bando promosso dalla Regione Toscana in occasione dei 260 anni dall’ascesa al trono di Pietro Leopoldo, ha avviato un progetto di valorizzazione che comprende visite guidate, un filmato, un volume storico e una serie di incontri, di cui questa presentazione è l’apertura ufficiale.
