Exhibition “JOAN MIRO’ IN MONTECATINI TERME” – Mo.C.A. DECEMBER 4, 2024 / JUNE 29, 2025
From December 4, 2024 to June 29, 2025, the Mo.C.A. – Montecatini Terme Contemporary Art will host the exhibition titled “JOAN MIRO’ IN MONTECATINI TERME”.
The Civic Gallery, inaugurated on December 4, 2012, houses in permanent exhibition “Dona Voltada d’un Vol d’Ocells”, one of the 5 largest works in the world created by Miró.
The exhibition aims to tell the fascinating story of how in 1980 the Spanish artist painted it specifically for the spa town.
We will therefore speak of the Maggio Miró, the greatest cultural event ever held in Montecatini, and of Carlos Franqui who conceived it. And of the many artists who accepted his invitation to participate by creating works inspired by the figure and works of the greatest of the surrealists in order to pay homage to him. And of the reason why Miró, the eagerly awaited guest of honor, never arrived in the city.
A story that we will retrace through the portraits of its protagonists and of the great celebration that all of Montecatini experienced in that spring of 1980.
We will do so through the exhibition of works by painters from all over the world who joined the initiative, which will be accompanied by Miró lithographs, autograph documents by the Master, photographs, posters and other unpublished material loaned by private individuals who were fortunate enough to witness the event or by their heirs.
The exhibition, which will continue into 2025, will provide the opportunity to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the presence of Miró’s Woman in Montecatini.
And to thank, once again, the artist for his genius and his generosity.
